It’s time for the next generation of Microsoft’s Surface computers to take their place on store shelves. The fourth generation can be seen as a slightly incremental upgrade from the third. We see, among other things, newer processors from both AMD and Intel, battery times of up to 19 hours and a new color available on the 13.5-inch models.
In terms of processors, this is about the Ryzen 4000U series from AMD and the eleventh generation Core processors from Intel. Other specifications include from eight up to 32 GB of internal memory. Depending on which processor the memory is paired with. When it comes to storage capacity, Microsoft has got rid of the 128 GB variants and now offers 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB storage capacity. This aspect is also affected by which processor is housed in the computer.
Speaking of the processors on the inside and the other specifications they offer, AMD has pulled a slightly shorter straw than Intel. Compared to the 13.5-inch models of the Surface Laptop 4, it is a Ryzen 5 processor, up to 16 GB of internal memory and 256 GB of storage that applies. On the Intel side, however, we have up to Core i7 processors, 32 GB of internal memory and 1 TB of storage.
Even with the larger 15-inch models, there are hardware differences. Here, AMD extends up to Ryzen 7 processors, 16 GB of internal memory and 512 GB of storage. Intel on the other hand gets Core i7 processors, up to 32 GB of internal memory and 1 TB of storage here too.
Otherwise, there is almost nothing that distinguishes the Surface Laptop 4 from the previous generation. It is still an aluminum chassis, the same set of ports with a USB-C, USB-A and headphone jack. Also this generation, Microsoft has chosen to skip Thunderbolt 3 or 4.
Surface Laptop 4 is available now in the US, Canada and Japan. Other markets, Sweden included, will start sales within the coming weeks with a recommended price from SEK 13,495.
