The former guerrilla and senator Gustavo Petro won the first presidential round in Colombia with more than 40% of the votes, but he will have to dispute a ballot with the ‘outsider’ millionaire Rodolfo Hernández (28%), according to a preliminary count released on Sunday.
According to the distribution of the results presented by the National Registry of Civil Status, the country is divided in two: the departments in orange are where Gustavo Petro won with the Historical Pact, which were 18, and the 13 marked in yellow, where Rodolfo Hernández won with the League of Anticorruption Governors. The missing department, to complete the 32 that make up the country, is Antioquia, which was won by Federico ‘Fico’ Gutiérrez, who also won abroad .
In orange are the departments in which Gustavo Petro won, in yellow those of Rodolfo Hernández and in purple those of Federico Gutiérrez.
Starting from north to south, La Guajira was an absolute triumph for Gustavo Petro, who won all 15 municipalities in the department. In total, of the 113,849 votes, the Historic Pact obtained 54.71%. The towns where he obtained the most votes was Riohacha, the capital, achieving 31,295; and in Maicao, where it won 20,206.
In Cesar, of the 25 municipalities in the department, Petro won 15, being the capital, Valledupar, where he obtained the majority of the votes (80,955, that is, 48.19%). In the remaining 10, Rodolfo Hernández beat the Historic Pact; He precisely stayed with one of the main towns, Aguachica , where he won 22,288 votes, 52.43% of the total.
Norte de Santander, one of the main border departments, a territory where the League of Anticorruption Governors had among its accounts that it would win, it succeeded. Of the 40 municipalities, Hernández triumphed in 33, mainly in Cúcuta, where he received 169,932 votes, representing 50.28% of the results in this capital. Villa del Rosario, one of the main border towns, also won the ‘engineer’ with 27,145 votes.
With regard to Norte de Santander, there they denounced that the compatriots who had to travel to Colombia in order to exercise their right to vote, since in Venezuela no tables or stalls were set up, when they arrived to vote they were offered markets and transportation in exchange for their choice. An interview published by Caracol Radio and W Radio recorded the alleged irregularity, by one of the people who was a victim of this constraint:
“As Colombians residing abroad, we are concerned about what is happening in the middle of the lessons, the delivery of gifts to support one or another candidate, we ask the authorities to address the complaints that have been filed in the border area. They are also using buses to mobilize voters from various municipalities in Venezuela to the border. This service was offered to my family, but we did not accept being transferred and we did it by our own means.”

Arauca was one of the departments where the victory of Rodolfo Hernández was absolute, in the 7 municipalities the engineer won, in the capital he got 20,525 votes, which is 58% of the voters.
However, in this department the authorities confirmed that there were acts by armed groups, which left vehicles crossed with allusive messages and other demonstrations that left a trace of their presence. The eighth division of the Army and the Police revealed that in Tame and Fortul they tried to block the roads with trucks, which were left with messages alluding to the FARC.
In Vichada, paradoxically, Rodolfo Hernández won. It is worth remembering that weeks ago the candidate from Santander declared that he did not know what this department was. There, the engineer was victorious in 3 of the 4 municipalities, obtaining 5,124 votes, including his capital Puerto Carreño. In the other population, Cmaribo, the largest speaking, the majority went to Gustavo Petro.

The last border department with Venezuela, Guainía, was for the Historic Pact. Of the 8 municipalities, in 5 the majority went to Gustavo Petro, although there are not many people who vote there: 4,966 in total is the registered electoral census: Inírida< /b>, its capital, is the most important for these counts. In this city, Petro managed to obtain 3,698 votes, representing 43.10% of the total result.
Abroad, the majority of Colombians voted for < b>Federico “Fico” Gutiérrez, emphasizing his victory in countries such as the United States, where there are more nationals, achieved 70,763 votes; Other countries where the Team for Colombia candidate won were in: Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, India and South Africa.
In the international framework, Petro was the second most voted, winning in nations like Spain, the second with more Colombians, Europe in general, Canada, Australia, Russia and China .
