A new controversy confronts the presidential candidates Rodolfo Hernández and Gustavo Petro, after the former assured that the candidate of the Historical Pact offered him to be his formula vice-presidential in his third attempt to be head of state.
What was said by Hernández, who was mayor of Bucaramanga, was given during a press conference in Tunja, the capital of Boyacá, where he said that two years ago he had lunch with Petro and that was the moment when he offered to be his partner for the electoral contest.
“I have had five sancochos with him, and two and a half years ago, he told me: you and I are invincible, I give you the vice presidency of the republic and you accompany me in this process, that the commitment is to get all these thieves out of the government,” said Hernández.
In addition, the candidate for the League of Anticorruption Governors also assured that the leader of Human Colombia offered him “other things.” However, Hernández supposedly rejected the proposals that Gustavo Petro had made to him some time ago.
“Look Gustavo, I’m not looking for a position, who said? Where did they tell you that I’m looking for a job? No, what I want to do is what the 10 or 12 presidents in the past have not been able to do, put an end to corruption”, was the response that the former Santanderean president gave to the person who today directs the intention to vote for the Presidency.
At that press conference, where he was accompanied by several congressmen from the Green Alliance, Hernández also took advantage of to question former Colombian president César Gaviria, today head of the Liberal Party. “César Gaviria Trujillo is the father of the destruction of agriculture in Colombia to replace it with imports. We are going to pay attention to the field”, said the candidate.
The aforementioned sunflower party parliamentarians also spoke during the space and issued their support for the candidate in the first presidential round on May 29.
“Today the feeling of the people is choosing a candidate who represents the center, that is why we are here. We know that the proposal that Sergio Fajardo proposed to the country, of which we have been a part, is the best programmatically, but the citizenry is interpreting and wants another change, and we cannot be oblivious. For me to say that Uribism is going to close a cycle is worth more than anything, it is telling the country that it will have two options for change and I don’t feel bad for sitting here next to engineer Rodolfo”, said Senator Carolina Espitia, a native of that department.
For his part, the representative to the Chamber for Boyacá, Wilmer Castellanos, assured that engineer Hernández is, supposedly, “the option of change” and told what the former Bumangués president will do if he wins the presidential elections. “He is going to risk it for the development of Colombia, away from extremes,” added the congressman.
“We want two alternative presidential candidates to arrive, that’s why today we’re supporting the candidate with whom we feel most affinity, that’s why we’re with the engineer,” said Neila Ruíz, representative to the Chamber for Boyacá.
We must remember that this week has been quite critical between Petro and Hernández, to the point that they have been accused of being corrupt and even liars. The candidate for the League of Anti-Corruption Governors released a statement on the morning of this Tuesday, May 24, in which he denied that someone from his campaign was the “source of information” which gave rise to the scandal about the alleged intention to suspend the elections that Petro disclosed.
