Apple has never publicly mentioned the possibility that it is launching a smartphone foldable as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 or the Galaxy Z Flip Samsung. However, many rumors suggest that this possibility is not ruled out by the firm of Cupertino. And patents that were discovered by the media also suggest that Apple engineers interested in this technology.

Screens folding could allow Apple to offer the iPhone, which, once unfolded, can transform into iPad. And recently, a new rumor on this type of device has appeared on the canvas.

A rumor that gives hope, but to be considered with extreme caution

In an article published this week, the site Gizmochina relays a tweet from Komiya, a source that is regularly quoted by the media, which refers to the possible features that would have an iPhone/iPad foldable.

According to this source, the device could be presented by Apple in 2023, and would use a chip A16X or A15. The screen would use the technology MicroLED, and could have a camera and a scanner of fingerprints hidden under the screen.

Komiya also indicates that this hybrid smartphone/tablet, could offer an improved experience when it is used with the future augmented reality glasses Apple. But of course, for the moment, this information is still to be considered with extreme caution, since it is not an official information.

What is certain is that the smartphones foldable should be more and more popular and many manufacturers are going to launch in this type of device. But for the moment, one of the obstacles to the democratization of smartphones folding is the price.

However, as and to the extent that the production of this type of smartphone increases, prices are expected to fall gradually. Moreover, in 2019, before being hit by u.s. sanctions, Huawei mentioned the possibility of selling smartphones foldable to less than 1 000 euros later.

At the same time, technologies are also evolving. If the first wave of smartphones foldable had screens in plastic, Samsung has already proposed glass screens, ultra-slim on the Galaxy Z Flip. And currently, the company Corning is already working on the glass resistant Gorilla Glass for smartphones foldable.
