Andrea Crespi, general manager of Hyundai Italy, is confident about the future of the Korean carmaker. Italian sales are positive, as are European ones; the brand has an offer that covers both the electric and electrified, as well as the needs of the endothermic traditionalists. There is also hydrogen, although it does not actually sell. But from an engineering and research point of view, it still looks promising enough technology not to be abandoned.
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Crespi in fact recalled how thehydrogen has not been set aside at all by the brand it represents: “Hyundai has invested 6.7 billion euros in the evolution of hydrogen engines. Pioneer of this development is the FCev Vision 2030 which aims to accelerate our commitment to clean energy and green hydrogen contributes significantly to the improvement of the environment. It can also be used by other types of transport, such as ships, trains, drones but also for power generators“.
In addition to this speech, a very important topic for Hyundai was touched: that of urban mobility ‘in flight’. For some time, projects focused on ‘flying’ movements in the city and beyond have been revolving around the Korean house. “Progress for Humanity, as this movement has been called, does not focus only on product and production, it is a strategy that sees as its final goal the transition from car manufacturer to provider of intelligent, all-out mobility solutions to go meeting the rapidly changing needs of customers. The solutions concern autonomous driving, robotics, the construction of Urban air mobility, which will shape the future. Connectivity will be the center of this innovative mobility within an ecosystem that will connect every type of transport, without interruption, and will be able to unite the sky and the earth. Hyundai has already formed a unique department to bring about the democratization of flight and plans to commercialize it by 2028. Our group is focusing on creating an agile product road map. both for the design of aircraft and cars, leveraging our experience in batteries, engines, light materials and, indeed, autonomous driving»Said Crespi.
