The police identified This Tuesday a 16-year-old boy and a 30-year-old adult were killed in a shootout between security forces and a criminal organization on Sunday outside a resort in Toa Baja (north).

The dead were identified as Obed García Beltrán, 16, and Jonathan Miguel Martínez Rodríguez, 30.

García had been arrested for violating the Controlled Substances Act in June 2021 in the residential Alturas de Cupey in Trujillo Alto, a municipality near San Juan.

There was also an arrest warrant against García for not appearing at a court hearing. that the Police did not detail.

Martínez, for his part, had been accused of violating the Controlled Substances Laws, whose hearing was supposed to be seen this Tuesday in the San Juan Court.

Furthermore, it was linked to an attempted carjacking. (armed vehicle theft) to a motorcyclist in Guaynabo, a neighboring municipality of the capital, last Friday.

In this incident, the owner of the motorcycle and one of the assailants were injured when the victim fired at him. in an act of self-defense.

In addition to the death of García and Martínez, the Police arrested 12 people linked to the criminal organization who faced on Sunday against the authorities at the Punta Salinas resort in Toa Baja.

The arrests were carried out due to an investigation carried out by the security forces to prevent criminal incidents at the hands of an organization suspected of multiple murders.

The event follows an investigation which is part of the strategies that seek to get criminals off the streets contained in the Security Plan of the Government of Puerto Rico.

In the incident on Sunday, the agents repelled the aggression, product of what in which García and Martínez died and it was achieved. Twelve members of the organization were arrested.

In addition, six weapons were seized, all of them altered, and six vehicles, one of which was reported stolen.

None of the agents were successful. wounded in the altercation with the criminal gang.

The criminal organization was led by an individual identified as Edwin Rivera Pérez, known as “Bubu”, who led a criminal group linked to to multiple murders in the municipalities of Bayamón and Cataño.
