Through a strategic alliance, the University San Sebastián will measure the level of social and economic impact of Empresas Vega Monumental in the Bío Bío region, in addition to seeking ways to promote its sustainable development.
Empresas Vega Monumental and the San Sebastián University signed an unprecedented collaboration agreement, aimed at systematizing and managing relevant information regarding the economic impact and social of the main and most strategic food supply center in the south-central zone of Chile, located in Gran Concepción, Bío Bío region.
Through this strategic alliance, they will also seek topromote their sustainable developmentin areas such as food safety; the management, reuse and enhancement of organic waste; incorporation of non-conventional renewable energy sources such as solar energy; strengthen the harmonious development of a circular economy and the strengthening of relations with the community and stakeholders; Corporate Social Responsibility actions; training and delivery of tools to improve the value chain of its tenants, among others.
Juan Manuel Bravo, general manager of Empresas Vega Monumental, considers that this firm is a fact historic, since this strategic partnership with the USS is “a step forward in our relationship with the community and our environment, as a relevant company for the regional economy, generator of jobs, economic dynamism and a strategic food supply point for the region ( Bío Bío).”

The executive highlights that, in the first stage, an Economic and Social Footprint study is being considered to measure, for the first time in more than 40 years of operation, the level of impact on the local economy of the Wholesale Market and the 21 de Mayo Shopping Center.
For his part, the USS Vice Chancellor, Jorge Sabag, highlighted that this agreement constitutes for his house of studies the possibility of strengthening his link with the environment and the community in multiple ways, making a visible contribution to the quality of life of the different publics related to Empresas Vega Monumental, and highlighting the strategic importance of the main food center of the region.
“We believe that this type of initiative, in which academia and business come together to work together, contribute to creating virtuous circles of collaboration, which directly benefit the quality of life of the people”, as gurated the university authority.
