A few hours before the voting begins at the Chamber of Deputies, the Minister of the Segpres, Ana Lya Uriarte, held a meeting with the head of the DC caucus, Eric Aedo. Faced with this, the Secretary of State said that “we are interested in having the Christian Democracy in a center-left axis, and that is why we will make the maximum efforts as a Government as well.”
The minister of the Segpres, Ana Lya Uriarte, met with the head of the bench of deputies of the DC, Eric Aedo, prior to the expected vote of the Lower House table.
“I had a direct, frank, very friendly conversation, as has always been the relationship I have with the boss of the Christian Democracy caucus, which is Deputy Aedo, and with the entire caucus by the way”, specified the Secretary of State.
To this he added that “as a government there is of course full willingness to work with the Christian Democracy in absolutely friendly, close terms, and naturally considering it a center party and that we would like to be accompanying the left. Therefore, for us, this center-left union is very important”.

“For us, the presence of the Christian Democracy -institutionally its caucus- in this definition of the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies is really very important. We are interested in having the Christian Democracy in a center-left axis, and that is why we will make every effort as a government as well”, said Uriarte.
It is worth mentioning that before the meeting, Deputy Aedo indicated that “we have neither vetoes nor objections to any name. Obviously Vlado, beyond having been a spokesperson for the Approval, and that generates some suspicions in some of our people, but it doesn’t seem like a bad name to us.”
Segpres and PDG
When asked if closeness has been sought with the PDG to obtain votes, the Segpres minister stressed that the “ role of the General Secretariat of the Presidency is not to generate agreements or enter into a deliberation with the different political parties, because that is a task carried out by the caucus leaders, the deputies, who are the ones who define”.
In this line, he clarified that “last Thursday afternoon I had a meeting by Zoom with the deputy (Víctor) Pino and the deputy (Yovana) Ahumada, who exercise the leadership of the bench, in a spirit exclusively of what relates us as Segpres and the People’s Party, which is one of the benches with whom I have met several times”.
“It is not a spirit of closeness or not, for us it is a bench that is here in Congress and with which we have a good relationship, and we will continue to work with them. Our conviction is that democratic dialogue is a pending task that must be carried out every day and that is what we are working on”, said Minister Uriarte.
