Race-1 of the Prosecco DOC Dutch Round, the fifth event of the 2021 WorldSBK season, offers a great spectacle to the public in the stands of the TT Circuit in Assen (Netherlands). After a convincing qualification, Scott Redding and Michael Ruben Rinaldi they start respectively from the third and fourth position and from the first lap they give the feeling of being able to fight for the victory. Above all, Rinaldi’s pace seems to be particularly incisive and allows him to take third position behind Rea (Kawasaki) and Razgatlioglu (Yamaha). The Italian driver pushes hard but during the third lap loses the front at turn 8 compromising your race. Redding remains glued to the podium group and on lap eight he manages to overtake Razgatlioglu to move into second position. Scott looks ready to attack Rea but is forced to fend off Toprak’s return by hiring one spectacular duel with the Turkish driver allowing the race leader to create a gap of a couple of seconds. The fight for second place is exciting. Two laps from the end, however, the red flag exposed for the crash of Folger (BMW) interrupts the duel decreeing the second position of Scott Redding.
WSBK | Netherlands 2021, Race-1: Rea wins, Folger afraid
Scott Redding: “It’s nice to be back on the podium and get this result in Assen with so many fans in the stands. During the race the feeling was very positive and especially in the central phase I was aware of being able to fight for the victory. Then I started to have some problems with the front tire and I had to fight intensely with Toprak, losing meters compared to Rea. At the end I’m satisfied for this result“.
Michael Rinaldi: “I am very sorry for the fall. Despite the rather difficult Friday, we were able to take some steps forward and this morning the sensations were quite positive. After a good start I had the feeling of being able to stay with the leaders. Unfortunately I made a mistake because I approached Turn 8 the wrong way, without taking into account the fact that the tank was still full. A lesson that will serve me for the future“.
