Toprak Razgatlioglu is the new leader of the Superbike championship. A result difficult to imagine after the weekend in Estoril, at the end of which Jonathan Rea seemed destined for another solo ride towards the seventh consecutive world champion. On the road to the Cannibal, however, the combination Toprak Razgatlioglu-Yamaha R1 has forcefully stood in the way. Despite a qualifying to forget that saw him finish in 13th position, the Turkish protege of Kenan Sofuoglu at Donington won both Race-1 and Race-2, a pairing he had never managed in the past. The driver of the Iwata house was only missing the victory in the Superpole Race, which was really difficult to achieve starting from 13th, even if in Race-1 in the middle of the second lap he was already leading the race.
Official: no from Razgatlioglu to MotoGP, biennial with Yamaha WSBK
Razgatlioglu has just renewed the contract with Yamaha in Superbike for the next two years, thus rejecting the courtship of Ducati in the derivatives from the series and the possibility of landing in MotoGP next year using the free saddles at Yamaha, a project probably only postponed until Toprak will be able to follow a path of Appropriate approach on the basis of several preparatory test sessions to such a selective category as MotoGP (ask Garrett Gerloff for information, given that the American rider at Assen was able to experience how easy it is to express oneself immediately at high levels with the class prototypes Queen).

The one between Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu promises to be a arm wrestling everything to follow in the next stages of the season. The next round of Assen already promises sparks: “I risked losing the front three times in Race-2, so I preferred to follow Rea with the intention of then trying to fight for it in the final race, but then he made a serious mistake by crashing – the words of the Turk at the end of Race-2 – I really like the Assen track and I can’t wait to race there, it will be the first time for me with the Yamaha R1 there, but I don’t think there will be any particular problems ”.
