The Race Direction of the Austrian Grand Prix has finally taken a decision on the position of the eight ‘indicted’ drivers at the end of the race for not slowing down under double yellow flags. The episode concerns the last lap of the Grand Prix, when flags were displayed indicating a danger on the track following the accident that occurred in the section between turn 4 and turn 5 between Kimi Raikkonen’s Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin. by Sebastian Vettel. Sainz, Perez, Ricciardo, Leclerc, Gasly, Giovinazzi, Latifi and Mazepin ended up in the crosshairs of the race direction.
The first six were all acquitted with the same ‘formula’: “The stewards recognized that the driver acted appropriately in the sectors where the double yellow flag was waved”. Instead, Nicholas Latifi and Nikita Mazepin were punished. For both drivers arrived 30 seconds of penalties attributed to the final race time and three penalty points for their respective licenses. A decision which, however, does not actually change the situation of the final classification of the race, nor in terms of placements in the points area, all confirmed.
