On Christmas 1984, Augusto Guerrero escaped from him. to death when, in early December of that year, he suffered A car accident occurred on Bolívar Avenue, around 3:30 in the morning.

The press of the time published that he had to wait for an ambulance for 25 minutes because many passers-by did not dare to help him, due to the complexity that still implies taking an injured person to a health center. It is read in the chronicles of that time that a man of Hindu origin helped him and that he was taken to the Darío Contreras hospital.

with the unfortunate news of the terrible accident. The artistic class and people from television were shocked by the state of health of Guerrero, who He had suffered very serious injuries to his left leg, which later had to be amputated, after unsuccessful attempts by health specialists, who treated him for four  months at the UCE Medical Center.

That experience changed him. life. He often said in interviews after his recovery that he learned to live more calmly and to enjoy what he had around him.

Years later, another difficult moment was when a helicopter in which he was flying with promoter Luis Medrano crashed. ashore while he was recording between Tenares and San Francisco de Macoris.

Augusto honored his surnameand like a great warrior he joined He immediately started working on the production of a variety of programs, especially the emblematic “El Show del Mediodía”, through Color Visión. 

When he had to defend his work as a producer and that of the Televisa company, of which he was a part, Augusto did so with energy and did not hesitate to sing “three truths” to them. those who dared to criticize him.

He knew how to remind the press of the contributions and diversity of programs that Televisa produced and that gave life to Dominican television.  That company is chaired by his friend and partner José. Augusto Thomen.

In addition to “El Show del Noon”, Televisa ran “Otra vez con Yaqui”, “Cuentos y Cantos”, “Happy Hours”, “Friendo and Eating”, “Televisa in Sports”, “Nohe and Día”, “The Golden Years of the Midday Show” and many others who were pioneers in local programming.

He was never afraid of competition, especially the spaces that emerged to face “El Show del Noon”, such as “Fiesta” of Teleantillas and the meridian spaces that emerged in other channels. 

Before the so-called “War of the ballot”, in 1985, when a banking in Rahintel and conquered to the talents of the Show, Augusto always came out to the front to assert his work and that of all those who worked on Televisa programs.

It was also characterized for being a very sensitive person, a quality that was always highlighted in the various interviews in the newspapers.

With his death, on Tuesday, at the age of 76, the memory of a a man loved and admired by the artistic class that stood out in the 80s, even more respected for his contributions as one of the most prolific creators on TV.

His first contacts with the media took place in the newspaper LISTÍN DIARIO, where he entered the newspaper. to work, first as a proofreader and then as a copyeditor.

“They gave me a job in the newsroom as a proofreader, first as a proofreader, and then as a style editor. Then I wrote several articles and I went up the ladder, I corrected the supplement of the Listín Diario to Marianne de Tolentino and within it I had a page where I interviewed the artists. In the Listín duré nine years, there I worked I spent time with the best journalists in this country, until I to be the assistant of Don Rafael Herrera. In addition, I was one of the founders of the newspaper Ultima Hora”.

Augusto had just not finished two university degrees. First he studied architecture for 5 years  at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña University, Unphu. Then he went to study the origin of modern architecture in Italy, France and Spain, which he did not finish either. It is so So when he arrives in the country he decides to work and asks Moisés Pellerano for a job, who was his mother’s cousin and one of the owners of Listín Diario.

+ His arrival on TV

Working in the Listín he wrote An article in which he reported that Freddy Beras Goico presented a medal to Pope Paul VI. It is because of this writing that Beras Goico invited him to be part of her team to work on “El Gordo de la Semana”, in 1973, when he started on Radio Televisión Dominicana.

Freddy also produced the spaces “El tres por tres” and “The joy of the country”. there started to work with Carlos Bass, from whom he learned to be staged on television.

By the time José Augusto Thomén acquired “The Midday Show” and Yaqui Núñez called him so that she would be his assistant along with Ramoncito Frias. This space began to be transmitted by Color Vision, in 1975.

Guerrero learned He did most of the trades in television from set design, cameraman, assistant producer, until he became a director. in one of the most knowledgeable producers of Dominican television, making successful spaces such as “El Show del Mediodía”,  “Again with Yaqui”, “Cuentos y Cantos” and “The golden years of El Show del Mediodía”.

+ His childhood

Augusto’s father was an officer of the Royal Bank of Canada. Despite belonging to an upper middle class, he grew up in Ciudad Nueva, a classic sector of Santo Domingo. His friends were the neighborhood boys he grew up with. playing ball, about to be a baseball professional. arrived to practice with the Eastern Stars.

The death of his little brother, when Augusto was 7 years old, led to his death. his parents to protect him too much. Augusto’s family was composed, in addition to his parents, by his two & nbsp; sisters Ivonne and Ivelisse, and his older brother Pericles, who was his father’s brother.  

“I did primary school at the San José school. Then I passed He went to Colegio Santo Tomás and then to the Liceo Dominicano, from there I passed to the UNPHU where I am a founder. I studied architecture for five years” in one of the interviews.

Augusto Guerrero had five children, William, Augusto (Tuto), Mariel, Carlos and Amiée.
