Few times in the history of Formula 1 has a rookie driver – especially if forced to race with the worst single-seater on the grid – has this year had the media attention reserved for Mick Schumacher. Inevitably, the son of the seven-time world champion was scrutinized with curiosity by fans and professionals. Mistakes and accidents were not lacking, but in the direct confrontation in Haas with teammate Nikita Mazepin, who is also a rookie, the German son of art is clearly prevailing. Currently under the ‘protection’ of the Academy Ferrari, Schumacher is already at the center of market rumors. There are those who hypothesize his transfer to Alfa Romeo, but above all many dream of his arrival in the coming years at the wheel of a Cavallino single-seater.
For the moment, however, it is the same management of Ferrari, owner of his contract – as it had been with Charles Leclerc – that does not want to force the times. The intention is to guarantee the reigning F2 champion the right period of adaptation to the new category. “Mick is in his very first year in F1 and he’s driving for Haas – commented the Maranello team principal Mattia Binotto – we said at the beginning of the season that the goal for him was first and foremost to have no pressure and to make sure he learns“.
“2021 must be an important year for him in terms of learning. If we look at this goal it is doing well – added the number one of the Ferrari garage – he is learning and progressing. Obviously there was some error, but it is part of the learning process. Overall, in terms of balance so far, we can be happy. What is important for him is to continue to develop and progress in the second half of the championship. I am confident that it can do so “ concluded Binotto.
