At the age of 84 years has died the former US Treasury Secretary Paul O’neill (Paul O’neill).
It became known that he died on Saturday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was known for his leadership in the corporate world and independence in the Bush administration. He achieved great success as CEO of aluminum manufacturer Alcoa, and then headed the Treasury Department under George W. Bush.

His son Paul O’neill, Jr. confirmed that the former Minister died at home in Pittsburgh. His death was not related to the coronavirus.
O’neill was dismissed from the administration in December 2002 after he opposed a new round of tax cuts. HE believed that the economy was growing enough and was worried about the cost of a possible war in Iraq and the possibility of a second major terrorist attack. He also wanted to “fiscal flexibility” to reform social security.
“After the midterm elections in 2002, it became clear that my arguments don’t win more, he said in 2004. – Also I lack of clarity in the formulation of policies”.
O’neill was born in St. Louis in 1935. At first he worked in the government analyst for computer systems at the veterans Administration from 1961 to 1966 and then in 1967 moved to the Department of budget. In 1977, O’neill left government and became Vice-President of the International paper company, then – President of the company. Since 1987, headed by Alcoa.
