Diesel is also in big crisis in the United States, not only in Europe where it continues to lose market share in relation to the rise of the hybrid. Also Ford has in fact decided to eliminate the diesel engine from the offer of its flagship pick-up, the F-150 model.
There are several reasons behind this choice. Certainly there is less demand from customers, considering also that the diesel version was not among the cheapest ones. The American manufacturer admitted this, explaining that there was no comparison with the orders obtained for the other engines. For Ford, according to what he told Car and Driver, the 3.0 V6 diesel does not have the same efficiency compared to the hybrid PowerBoost, capable of giving a more ready torque and better consumption. The fourteenth generation of the F-150 model therefore loses the diesel, which until now has been the characterizing engine starting from the previous model launched in 2018; versions with this engine will no longer be available for order from July 16th.

The 3.0 diesel, with 250 horsepower, was certainly disadvantaged in the calculation of power compared to the 290 horsepower 3.3 petrol and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost. But also in terms of torque it was the worst engine: ‘only’ 597 Nm compared to other competing diesels such as the one fitted for example on the Chevrolet Silverado model. With the advancement of the pick-up market towards the hybrid, which can give the same satisfactions in terms of speed and towing power but with the addition of fuel economy, there could be further negative news for diesel engines, also in the United States.
