Meanwhile, there are more and more people who are calling for an end to all corona restrictions in view of the increasing vaccination numbers. Foreign Minister Heiko Maaß (SPD) had already publicly spoken out in favor of it. Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) is critical of this demand. “Before we can lift all measures, we have to go much further in the direction of herd immunity,” said the SPD politician Augsburger Allgemeine. “The pandemic is not over yet,” she warned.

Nevertheless, all remaining measures must be continuously checked to see whether they are still proportionate, said the Minister of Justice. “It is a great success that, thanks to the low number of infections and the progress made in vaccination, most of the restrictions have already been lifted,” said Lambrecht. This is particularly true “for restrictions that deeply interfere with fundamental rights”.
Hamburg’s Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) is optimistic about the development despite the current spread of the Delta variant *. He assumes that the corona pandemic will be over by the end of the year. “I think we will leave the pandemic behind us this year,” he told the German press agency. According to initial findings, the approved vaccines also protect against the new virus variants. “Now it is important that as many citizens as possible get vaccinated and that we as a society are protected as a whole.” A booster vaccination against Corona will probably be necessary *. “This would also be feasible as a routine in our health system. kah / dpa * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
