Nicholas Latifi will join Sergio Perez in the pit lane at the start of the Dutch Grand Prix. After the accident in the final minutes of Q2, the Canadian driver was forced to replace the gearbox on his Williams, retreating from 14th to 19th and last place on the grid. The rear impact against the barriers required the intervention of its mechanics on the transmission and, together with the engineers, it also opted for a change in set-up by modifying the configuration of the front wing for greater thrust in its comeback.
As for the Mexican from Red Bull, however, the start from the pit lane is due to one different specification of the battery pack compared to those used in qualifying. The elimination in Q1 led the technicians of the Austrian team and Honda to replace all the elements of Perez’s power unit, to have fresh elements available in view of the season finale.
“Considering Sergio’s grid position, together with the team we decided to take the opportunity to mount new components on the power unit on his car. Since some of these components are of different specifications, it will start from the pit lane “ said a Honda spokesman on the eve of the Grand Prix which will start at 3pm.
