Zandvoort Saturday ends with a double bitterness for the‘Aston Martin. The Silverstone team was the protagonist of a qualifying to forget, with Sebastian Vettel who was eliminated even in Q1 and will start tomorrow in 16th position, while Lance Stroll will start 12th, after missing access to Q3 for a few cents. Curiously, both drivers can complain about ‘external factors’ that have ended up penalizing them in the decisive moments. In fact, Vettel found himself stuck in traffic as he was completing his timed lap, being obstructed – unintentionally – by the two Haas. Stroll instead suffered the many interruptions that occurred in Q2, which prevented him from completing the last attempt.
“It is a real shame that the red flags prevented us from entering Q3 – commented the Canadian driver – the lap I was doing was much better and I think it would have been enough. We had rhythm in the car, so it’s a shame not to be able to show it fully. Even if it’s not the result we wanted today, I can’t wait to qualify here next year, because this is a really fun circuit to ride on. ” Stroll added again. The son of the team owner then focused on what the race plan will be: “We can fight for points. I don’t expect a lot of overtaking in the race, so making a good start and executing a good strategy will be crucial. Our attention is already turned to tomorrow and to come back stronger “.
“It’s a disappointing result and there are lessons to be learned today – instead admitted Vettel, who summoned by the FIA also ‘exonerated’ Mazepin and Schumacher regarding the alleged impeeding in his confrontation – I think a place in Q2 was achievable with a clean lap and I felt good in the car, but there was a lot of traffic which prevented me from completing the lap and making the most of the evolution of the track. In any case, we weren’t able to take a big step up from our test pace – added the German – so we have to understand why this was the case. It’s difficult to overtake here, but anything can happen tomorrow, especially on such a demanding track. We will try to catch up in the race and take advantage of any opportunity“.
