Blizzard confirmed that a preliminary build from Overwatch 2 will be used forOverwatch World League 2022, thus making it clear that the release date of the game is approaching. The event will in fact take place in April 2022.
The news comes from a certain source, namely from Jon Spector, the vice president of the Overwatch League, who wrote on Twitter: “I have read a lot of speculation about the starting date of the Overwatch World League 2022. We can confirm that we plan to start next season in April 2022. We will soon be providing new details on the construction of the roster for 2022 and, as we approach. April, we will provide more general information about the season.”
Spector concluded his speech by quoting journalist Liz Richardson, who a few hours earlier had reported on the use of one non-final build of Overwatch 2 for the OWL.
The fact that Overwatch 2 will be used for such an event bodes well for its state of play. It is also the confirmation that the launch of the final version could take place in 2022, probably a few months after the Overwatch World League. However, many will be able to play it, since it will be used for such a prestigious competition.
