Fresh from fourth place in last weekend’s race, Sergio Perez hopes this time to hit the podium in the second consecutive Formula 1 weekend on the Red Bull Ring track, which also coincides with the 200th career GP for the Mexican. Perez’s weekend in the Stria mountains, however, did not start perfectly. The Red Bull driver in fact finished the PL2 session in 11th place, showing some too many difficulties in adapting to the new soft tire compounds Pirelli brought for the Austrian ‘race-2’.

“The long runs were certainly more promising today– commented Perez at the end of the day, looking at the glass half full – but there is still a lot of work to be done. Both sessions were quite difficult as well I still don’t feel completely comfortable with the car on the softer compound. We need to analyze the data tonight to try to get back to the pace we expected in time for tomorrow’s qualifying. It felt like we were far enough out of balance with low fuel, but we corrected [questo problema] pretty quickly. We also saw less degradation on these tires, which is good“.
