Upon his arrival, Boric regretted the suspension of the summit of presidents of the Pacific Alliance, by decision of the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, because the Peruvian Congress did not allow the trip of the president Pedro Castle.
“I find it unfortunate that internal disputes, which should not be deepened, limit the possibilities of a sister country to participate in important arenas,” commented the Chilean head of state.
Given this, Boric added that he will meet this Wednesday with AMLO, where, among other things, he will consult on the decision to suspend the Pacific Alliance summit, and stressed that these spaces must be deepened.
“As I pointed out in the Apec, the Pacific is today the center of the world. And what we have with Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico and Peru is something tremendously important that we cannot waste, so I am interested in strengthening this space for Latin American integration”, commented the president.
In addition to meeting with López Obrador, the Chilean president will also meet with Mexican senators and a meeting with local and Chilean businessmen.
Despite the suspension of the summit, the Mexican president confirmed the visit of the other member presidents, the Colombian Gustavo Petro, as well as the president of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso, who seeks to join the trade bloc, reported EFE.
The president of Mexico had already advanced on Monday the possibility of suspending the meeting of the Pacific Alliance, a commercial bloc made up of his country, Chile, Colombia and Peru, due to the absence of Castillo, who faces a constitutional complaint for criminal organization, influence peddling and collusion.
