Rapper DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons, has passed away at the age of 50. His family has said this in a statement. DMX has been in a vegetative state for the past few days after having a heart attack last Friday night. That was probably the result of an overdose of drugs.

“We are very sad that our dear DMX, born Earl Simmons, passed away at the age of 50 in White Plains Hospital. His family was with him all those days when he was in a coma,” the family said. “Earl was a fighter who fought to the end. We will always cherish the time we had with him.”
Family, friends and fans of DMX previously held a vigil for the rapper at the hospital in New York where he was admitted a week ago. Hundreds of people attended. They chanted the name of DMX, while his music could be heard through speakers.
Tashera Simmons, the rapper’s ex-wife, and his fiancée Desiree Lindstrom were also at the vigil, as were some of his children. DMX had fifteen children with different women.
Thursday was already known that no brain activity had been detected in the musician in the past few days either.
DMX became known with songs like Party Up, What’s My Name on What These Bitches Want. He often came into contact with the law in his life, partly because of animal cruelty, tax fraud and possession of drugs and weapons.
