The Almuñécar Local Police has warned about a scam being carried out against the hostelry sector by supposed representatives of electricity companies.
They always phone bars, restaurants and beach bars when they are rushed off their feet.
They give the proprietor ten minutes to satisfy a supposed debt using a creditcard otherwise the power will be cut off within a matter of minutes.
Obviously, with their tables full of customers, it would be a disaster, so rather than arguing over the telephone, they pay up. But these calls are from scammers who do not represent anything other than their own greed.

The Chiringuitos Association had already raised the alarm over this, explaining that the fraudsters normally target their victims’ premises between 13.00h and 14.00h.
