The report, published on Tuesday, said that General Mark Milley, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, called his Chinese counterpart “twice”, to reassure Chinese fears that Donald Trump, who was president of the United States at the time, would ignite a war with China.
According to the report, General Millie Trump did not tell those calls and kept them secret, while Trump’s days in the White House were numbered.
“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is in regular contact with defense chiefs around the world, including his counterparts in China and Russia,” a spokesman for Milley, in defense of the chief of staff, said.
These talks are vital to improving mutual understanding of the US national security interests, reducing tensions, providing clarity and avoiding unintended consequences or conflict, the spokesperson emphasized.

He emphasized that Milley’s calls “with the Chinese and others in October and January were in line with these duties and responsibilities that convey reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.”
After publishing the controversial report, the White House said Wednesday that President Joe Biden had “full confidence” in General Mark Milley, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.
