Shortly before the entry of the Taliban into Kabul, Pangea had expressed concern about the Afghan conflict and the consequences it would have on the protection of human rights.
“For us at Pangea these are hours full of anguish and worry. As we write these lines, the Taliban are at the gates of Kabul and we do not know what will happen. We are in close contact with the Afghan girls of the Pangea office and every whatsapp is full of fear. We are worried because we know that our colleagues are in danger and risk their lives for having courageously committed to Pangea for the rights of women and girls ”, reads the post.
“We have made some promises but now is the time to wait. To secure our Afghan staff, to act silently, to slow down our work so as not to put women and children even more in danger. We have always told you that Kabul is not a project but a family and we were not lying to you. Those women and girls are friends, sisters and daughters ”.
“We know them one by one. We were welcomed into their home, laughed together and enjoyed their achievements. We played soccer with the deaf girls, we have their enthusiastic smiles in our eyes, we accompanied them home after training and we met their parents. We cheered with you at each of their goals.
All this cannot end. We have made promises and we will do everything to keep them. We will not leave them alone. Don’t leave us alone! ”.
