An animal rights NGO denounced that Asmar prohibited workers from feeding dogs at the Talcahuano shipyard, where there are dogs that would be malnourished. They point to labor persecution.
Animal groups denounce that from the Navy Shipyards and Maestranzas (Asmar) in Talcahuano, Bío Bío region, they carry out labor persecution of workers who feed dogs that live in the plant, which is prohibited.
A dozen abandoned dogs have found refuge at the Asmar Plant, where, according to workers, it is customary for the dogs to live there and be fed and even adopted by the officials themselves.

The first warning was through a poster indicating that feeding the dogs attracts rodents and therefore it should not be done, but later, they sent official letters to workers caught feeding the animals where they were penalized for disrespect.
In one of these cases, a worker is called to attention, who would have responded badly to a superior.

Nancy Figueroa, president of the Bío Bío Animal Defense Corporation, pointed out that this violates law 21,020 and cholito law, for which they will file a complaint.
“The problem is that there is a prohibition on feeding them, knowing that Law 21,020 considers providing any kind of help to animals by omission,” said Figueroa, who assured that they met with the company, from where they said that they would remove the measure, but so far have not done so.
On behalf of the Asmar Talcahuano Plant, they denied the prohibition that prevents feeding dogs that they transit daily through the facilities of the Industrial Plant.
A series of actions have been carried out on this canine population, such as coordination with temporary animal maintenance centers and protection centers, so that they are received in a suitable place, together with obtaining veterinary care, vaccination and sterilization, complying with health regulations, which allows a healthy coexistence between workers, suppliers, subcontractors.
They added that dogs that move freely through the Shipyard premises can continue to live.
