Honda’s CRF1100L Africa Twin family received an update for model year 2022. They have been Euro5 ready since they got a major makeover and a larger lung capacity in 2020, so the torque-rich 1,084cc parallel twin (102 hp, 105 Nm) remains the same.
The updates are therefore often limited to a few practical and cosmetic tweaks. For example, a luggage carrier is now part of the standard equipment and the DCT settings have been updated on both models.
The Africa Twin gets new ‘Big Logo’ graphics and they’re so named because, well, there’s a large Africa Twin logo on it. The Adventure Sports also gets new graphics (‘Cracked Terrain’). The windshield of the latter became shorter and is adjustable in height (5 positions).

Rumors of a touring bike with the Africa Twin block have been circulating for months and early this year the type designation NT1100 was patented, patents were also filed for a street-oriented frame around an Africa Twin block. Recently, type approval documents surfaced for two versions – NT1100A and NT1100D (the DCT version) – which also showed details about weight, power and dimensions. Honda is keeping its lips tight for the time being, but it really can’t last long now…
