Damiano Caruso won the ninth stage of the Vuelta, Puerto Lumbreras-Alto de Velefique, 188 km, finishing uphill after an ascent of 13 km with peaks of 15%. The Sicilian, after second place in the Giro d’Italia and 24th place in the road test at the Tokyo Games, is back as protagonist in a mountain stage. With an escape of 35 km he also secured the jersey of the mountain leader. In the standings, the Roglic red jersey extends Bernal by thirty seconds. Tomorrow the Vuelta observes the first of two days of rest in Almeria, in southern Spain. We start again on Tuesday with the tenth stage, Roquetas del Mar-Rincon de la Victoria, km 191, with the ascent of Puerto de Almachar (10.6 km at 5%) 17 km from the end.
