Today, the famous search engine “Google” celebrated the Palestinian plastic artist Maliha Afnan, where the search engine placed her picture on its official page, which is seen among the most important artists of the Middle East in the twentieth century in plastic art, and was famous for the art of “written paintings”.
Maliha Afnan was born in Haifa, Palestine, March 24, 1935, and died January 6, 2016 in the British capital, London, at the age of 80.
Maliha Afnan moved to Beirut with her family in 1949, and received a Bachelor of Arts from the American University of Beirut, and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington.

Maliha Afnan’s artwork appeared mainly in France and London, and her first solo exhibition was at the Basel Gallery in Switzerland in 1971, organized by the American artist Mark Toby.
Some of Mleiha’s works are also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum in London, in the Written Art Collection in Germany, in the Arab World Institute in Paris, and BAII’s Collection in Paris.
Among the works of Maliha Afnan is the important exhibition that she held in the “Rose Issa” gallery in the British capital, London, which she called “A Speaking Memory” and included twenty-seven artworks representing different stages of her artistic experience, and reflecting her atmosphere in experimentation through her long visual research in Arabic calligraphy and Latin, and her use of multiple techniques and materials within her abstract paintings.
