The 18-year-old from Romagna pays the emotion at the decisive moment: there will be no blue for the medal
July 24
– TOKYO
Sofia Ceccarello, what a mockery. The 18-year-old from Romagna misses the final eight of the 10-meter rifle of the shooting range by a whisker. In qualifying, up to 59th of the 60 scheduled shots, he travels in a promotion position. Then, when it seems done and a comfortable 10.0 would be enough to hit the target, she pays for the emotion: that damned 8.8 makes her finish tenth, with 637.3, 1.2 from the qualification.

In the final (from 3.45 am), when the first medals of the Games are awarded, there will be no Italians. The European bronze in charge of the specialty starts a bit quietly: after the first 10 shots he is fourteenth. But then his is a splendid crescendo. And when, after the second series, he enters the top eight, he never gives up the positions that matter. The blue shoots from position n. 54, the third to last of the grid from left to right. She is calm, focused, not very fast, but there is no need. He takes his breaks and always seems to have the situation under control. He is constant, regular, with all the unconsciousness of his very young age. But then, in the moment of truth, one step away from the goal, the nerves jump. It is the harsh law of shooting. He will do it again, Sofia: it is guaranteed.
