The return to Formula 1 of the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in the ranks of the team Alpine seemed to be able to obscure the presence of Esteban Ocon, among other things, fresh winner of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The French driver, who managed to obtain the first success of his career at the Hungaroring, wanted to clarify the mood and policy in force within the French team, firmly excluding any kind of favoritism or preference in the comparisons of the most experienced and titled teammate.
“I don’t feel any sort of preference for one side or the other of the garage in any way – commented Ocon to the microphones of Auto Motor und Sport – The team has faith in me, and I thank them for maintaining this attitude, especially in the most complex moments. But anyway I have never seen any differences from the beginning of the season. The engineers listen to me, and my feedback is not completely different from Fernando’s. No one expects a solution on their car totally opposite to that of the other, but if this were to happen the team would collaborate with two opposing factions. This is the philosophy ”.
Still with regard to the relationship between the two Alpine standard bearers, the Frenchman wanted to reiterate the importance of the advice provided by the Asturian, especially in light of the changes made to the power steering (later tested by Ocon) after the feedback provided by this one. last: “It would be stupid of me to ignore the suggestions of a rider like him – stressed the Frenchman – He has a lot of experience, and he immediately indicated that he was not comfortable with power steering.
