The minister, who celebrates the latest announcements by López Miras to ban fertilizers, does not rule out buying farms around the lagoon to create a green belt
The
Zero Discharge Plan left by the Government of Mariano Rajoy is “outdated and oversized” and it constitutes “a pharaonic project” that does not touch on the origin of the problem of the Mar Menor. The minister does not rule out that the State acquires land in the strip closest to the Mar Menor to create that green belt that prevents nitrate dumping. Another option is to reach
agreements with farm owners, who may have to abandon farming because of restrictions, so that they can make their properties profitable through “payment for environmental services.”
Ribera was
tough with the regional government, ensuring that «it is frustrating to see how the work we do from the CHS to detect illegal irrigation is not completed because
