Saman, the macabre family reunion to kill her: “We have to tear her apart”
“I make small pieces and if you want, I too can take them to Guastalla. Let’s throw it there, because that’s not good ”. The uncle of Saman Abbas, the Pakistani girl killed by her family for opposing an arranged marriage with an 11-year older cousin, would have said this during a meeting in which the relatives decided how they would make the body of the 18-year-old disappear. The uncle, 33-year-old Danish Hasnain, is currently being sought along with a cousin and the girl’s parents, all suspected of having fled abroad, between Spain and Pakistan.
To reconstruct what was declared at the meeting, held in the afternoon of the same day on which the eighteen-year-old disappeared, on April 30, was the minor brother of the victims, cited in the order of the Bologna review court. At the meeting, held in the white cottage in Novellara, in the province of Reggio Emilia, where the Abbas family lived, the uncle and other relatives would have talked about how to make the victim’s body disappear, tearing it to pieces. The uncle speaks of Guastalla, ten kilometers from Novellara and not far from the bends of the Po, indicating that the girl may have been thrown into the river.
Already on the evening of April 29, the uncle and two cousins had dug a grave near the house in which to throw the body, as shown in a video taken by surveillance cameras. One of the two cousins present, 28-year-old Ikram Ijaz, is also the only suspect currently in prison for the murder, while the other relatives involved are fugitives. The review court rejected his appeal, confirming his participation in the preparatory phase of the murder. According to the court, in fact, the “most probable and qualified” hypothesis is that the two cousins ”also participated in the execution material murder ”, helping his uncle.
