A race apart, that of Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea at Magny-Cours. From the beginning it was a question between the two of them, between these two-wheel phenomena that are igniting the Superbike World Championship as it hasn’t happened for years. In Race 1 the Turkish won, good at burning his rival, who started from pole position. Rea responded immediately on the straight that leads to the slow curve-5, but the Yamaha rider definitively took command of operations at -18 from the finish, with a braking pass in Adelaide. Razgatlioglu progressively stretched over his Kawasaki rival, thanks to a frenzied pace: the low 1:37 pace was too much for Rea, who gave up shortly after halfway through the race. Victory number 12 for the Yamaha rider, who crossed the line with one stubble frightening.

Excellent third place for Andrea Locatelli, who took advantage of Alex Lowes’ fall to -5 from the finish. The overtaking on Michael Ruben Rinaldi at the Adelaide braking was also decisive for the Yamaha blue. Bad Scott Redding, unable to go upstream after the bad Superpole: the Briton parked around 11th position, then crashed with three laps to go and finished 12th. In the rider standings, the Ducati rider is on 277 points, -59 from the new lone leader Razgatlioglu and -54 from Rea.
