According to the results of the “Plaza Pública” survey, carried out by the Chilean public opinion research company, Cadem, in its publication number 437, corresponding to the fourth week of May,disapproval of the government of Gabriel Boric increased by 57%, that is, 7% more than the previous week. This being the highest level of rejection since he assumed the presidency on March 11 of the current year.
In this context, the approval of the president leftist reached the figure of 36%, which translates into two points less compared to last week, while his confidence level fell 10 points, falling by 41%.
But these are not the only indicators in which Boric is affected, in almost all the attributes of his presidential figure there is a permanent drop with respect to the opinion that Chileans have about his government.
< p class=”paragraph”>In less than three months of Boric’s presidency, his authority and leadership stands at just 38%, 13 points less than last week. Regarding governance guarantees, Chileans rated it at 42%, that is, 15 points lower than seven days ago, and regarding the appreciation of having a good government team, the survey showed a drop of 18 points. in a week, that is, 39%.
All these figures are directly related to four points in which President Boric has been worst evaluated. In the first place, his ability to maintain public order, which was recorded at 32%, that is, 7 points less than a week ago. Management regarding immigration, which also stood at 32%, 6 points lower than seven days ago. His ability to deal with crime, which was marked by 28%, falling 4 points, and his ability to manage the Mapuche conflict in La Araucanía, which registered a drop of 13 points, reaching 25%.
During this month of May, the only member of Boric’s government that reflected a small positive assessment was the minister spokesperson for the Government, Camila Vallejo,who obtained a rise in his approval of 53%, that is, 4 more than last week.

On the other hand, the Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Ávila, suffered a significant drop, reaching 55% approval, 7 points less than the previous week, while Izkia Siches, Minister of the Interior and Public Security of Chile, remained the worst evaluated with 35%, improving only 2 points.
If during the fourth week of May, an election had been held to determine the change of the Chilean Constitution. 37% would have voted for approval, while 45%I would have rejected it, which does not reflect any change from the previous week.
Although President Boric “tried to gain political and legislative muscle” by adding officials from various spaces to his cabinet, the young president’s first months have not been easy . On the one hand, the economic outlook is grim, with inflation estimated at 10%.
A report, prepared by the Argentine non-governmental organization Legislative Directory, which it entitled “Image of power”, concluded that in the first months of 2022, in most Latin American countries, the number of high or very high levels of disapproval regarding their governments.
Regarding Boric, he assured that “he has tried to avoid at all costs the declaration of a state of emergency in the regions of Araucanía and Biobío, hot zones of the Mapuche conflict, which the opposition criticized so much. However, his proposal to establish an “intermediate state of protection and shelter” failed due to lack of agreements within the government coalition itself.
